Recently, I had the absolute joy of becoming the pianist for my dear friend Julia McCarren’s choir, made up of incredible individuals aged 55+ at Kensington Park, a Senior Living Residence. I can’t express enough how rewarding and fun it has been to share music with this vibrant community. We sang songs like "In The Good Old Summer Time," "Here Comes the Sun," "Daisy Daisy," "Under the Boardwalk" (my personal favorite), "Sunny Side of the Street," and "Look For the Silver Lining." It was such a treat to witness these grandpas and grandmas singing with such passion and vigor, blending their voices together in harmony.
This experience has been a true blessing. The energy, joy, and warmth from the residents were infectious, and it was a beautiful reminder of how music transcends age. I highly recommend everyone to take a little time and volunteer at your local Senior Living communities. They need this connection and joy more than we realize, and you’ll walk away with a heart full of gratitude and fulfillment. It’s truly a tender, sweet experience that brightens their day—and yours, too!
